AU PLOT

Danny is not accustomed to: Hawaii heat, spam on restaurant menus, pidgin English, and waking up with too much hair, less height, and distinctly different body parts. He's too goddamn tired to put much thought to it beyond 'really wacked-out dream' and so he grunts and shifts in order to clamber on top of Steve a little more, working half his torso -- what the fuck, how is he so short, how is there so little of him? -- on top of Steve and wrapping his arms around him to get more comfortable.

"Steve," Danny mutters, voice low but clearly a bit different. "If you freak when you wake up, I'm kneeing you in the balls." And after a year of waking up next to Steve, Danny's got a pretty good read on how to do it half-asleep.

Danny just shakes his head at the idea of the neighbors noticing any of this, popping open the buttons on the shirt and stripping it off with a roll back of his shoulders, draping it atop Steve's head and unzipping the skirt to do the same. It leaves Danny in the stockings hooked to the underwear and the bra -- care of Rachel's advice, they match. "Thank you, for letting me go postal on you earlier," he offers. "I admit, I'm a little disappointed I jumped you before we got to wrestling around on the floor, but needs must."

Steve smiles behind the shirt and gently tugs it down from his head, neatly laying it across the arm of the beach chair, and his eyes go a little wider. "You're disappointed?" he asks, tone slightly incredulous. "'Cause, really, I don't know what you were thinking about, but I know I wasn't expecting that kind of reaction after the way you wailed on the bag."

Danny just arches a brow and strips off the rest of his clothes, throwing the stockings at Steve before stepping into the swimsuit. "You do remember the part where I maybe get off a little on fighting, right?" Danny clarifies. "You remember that about me. Yes?"

He leans forward and grabs both of Steve's hands to pull him up out of the chair.

"Oh, so you're just going to change right - okay," Steve says, expression shifting to full-on incredulous, and he at least remembers to wedge the beer in the sand so it doesn't go flying when Danny pulls him up, unearthing his feet from the sand. "I do remember that, yeah," he adds, tucking a piece of hair behind Danny's ear.

Danny grins up at Steve and keeps tugging him along into the water, waiting until it's deep enough to just crash back against the wave, submerging and getting wet. He's not a swimmer-for-fun type of guy, so after a couple dunks in the water, he's already heading back out for the shore.

Steve lingers out in the water a little longer, submerging when Danny starts heading back in order to rinse off the sweat of the day. It's just enough of a dip to leave him feeling refreshed when he heads back to the shoreline, fingers slicking through his hair. He does catch up to Danny walking, sliding an arm around his waist and picking him up off the ground, growling teasingly in his ear.

"Steve! Steven!" Danny gasps, kicking slightly before he realizes what's going on. "What in hell are you doing, you neanderthal?"

"What, so suddenly I'm not allowed to touch you?" Steve murmurs, pulling a few pieces of wet hair back to kiss Danny's neck, tasting salty sea water.

"You're gonna make us fall," Danny warns, feeling a little perilous in their position, but he tries to steady the both of them by wrapping his legs around Steve's waist again, letting out a small sound of pleasure. "At least get us to the sand."

"I got you," Steve promises, sliding his arms around Danny a little tighter, focusing on the back-and-forth of the waves to keep his center of balance from slipping, and gets them out of the water without incident - even if he pretends he's going to drop Danny at least once.

"Jesus shit, McGarrett, I will end you and you will wish you never met me!" is Danny's verbose reaction to Steve pretending like he can't carry him -- all, whatever number of pounds he is now. "You fucking asshole, you think you're funny?" he spits out, running his fingers through Steve's hair.

"I don't know, I thought it was pretty funny myself," Steve replies, feigning ignorance as he moves to actually set Danny down on the perfectly solid sand before thinking better of it. "Oh, unless you don't want to get down now?"

"That's it," Danny announces as he gets down from Steve's grip, kicking at his calf. "I'm going to seduce your sister. I'll get a couple of beers and I think she'd appreciate a little oral."

Steve just looks at him, frowning a little, but mostly he stares him down, because what he knows from experience is that a staredown will work more often than not. "Are you, now."

Danny steels himself for this, hands on soaking wet hips, staring right back up at Steve and thinking about 'one win, just one'. "Yup," he agrees. "I'm gonna go put the stockings back on and the garter clip and I'm gonna wear this sexy red dress and then I'm gonna go be gay for your sister."

"Really," Steve muses out loud, nodding, pursing his lips as if he's actually giving this ridiculous idea some thought. "You think she'd go for that. Really."

"Well, if she doesn't go for it, I'm thinking that you know that club we went to that once? Remember? Dark, you getting eye-groped, I'm thinking I could find a taker there to at least not drop me on the sand!" Danny shouts right in Steve's face, getting a couple of inches closer.

"I didn't drop you, Danny, it was a joke," Steve says pointedly, refusing to back away or even concede so much in the way of breathing room. They're testing each other, the way they always do, trying to push the boundaries just enough for someone to break or give in. If he didn't know it was Danny by now, this is the defining sign.

"Again, not funny!" Danny shouts right back in his face, but there's just a degree of petulance in the mix. He lets out a huff of a breath and twirls the ring around his thumb once, twice, then three times, shifting his bare foot now to slide it up the inside of Steve's calf, fingers running down his arm and circling the tattoo.

"So, what, you want to get back at me now? Go right ahead," Steve replies. He's not as loud in the argument, but it's loud for him, his fingers creeping along the curve of Danny's hipbone as he tilts his head to look down at him from a different angle.

"Oh, fuck you, get inside the house," Danny says, half-furious, half-gleeful, and he's shoving at Steve to get him to go inside. "Feed the dog and go to the bedroom."

Steve ducks his head, but he does as he's told for once, bringing the beers inside and crouching down to let the puppy dive into his arms, picking him up to carry him into the kitchen while he gets his dinner ready. "You hungry? Yeah?"

Danny waits and watches for Steve, ducking behind some trees to change one more time -- out of the swimsuit, into the stockings and buttoning up the shirt, keeping it loose. He lingers at the back door, peering inside the house. "Are you in the bedroom yet?" he shouts.

"Almost," Steve calls back, before he's forced to set a wriggling Zulu down on the floor so he can eat his dinner, gently scratching him behind the ears before heading to the bedroom. He strips off his wet trunks and leaves them hanging to dry, slipping beneath the covers.

Danny takes just a small detour in the kitchen to scratch at Zulu's ears, still a pushover for the damn puppy even if he ends up being the strict parent. Danny pauses at the fridge to grab a bowl of strawberries and then heads up the stairs to the bedroom, not doing so much in the approach except for walking straight in and setting the bowl on the night table. "I would've suggested we do this on the beach, but sand everywhere? Not again."
