AU PLOT

Danny is not accustomed to: Hawaii heat, spam on restaurant menus, pidgin English, and waking up with too much hair, less height, and distinctly different body parts. He's too goddamn tired to put much thought to it beyond 'really wacked-out dream' and so he grunts and shifts in order to clamber on top of Steve a little more, working half his torso -- what the fuck, how is he so short, how is there so little of him? -- on top of Steve and wrapping his arms around him to get more comfortable.

"Steve," Danny mutters, voice low but clearly a bit different. "If you freak when you wake up, I'm kneeing you in the balls." And after a year of waking up next to Steve, Danny's got a pretty good read on how to do it half-asleep.

"Steven, calm down," Danny coaxes with a sigh, sitting up a bit gingerly in order to strip off the clothes and search for something to sleep in. "It's, what, the second time we've had sex like this? And," he goes on, smirking, "pretty hard sex," he reminds him, kissing Steve's cheek. "I'm fine, okay? It'll sting a little, hurt a little, I'm fine. Can you get me one of your shirts and pair of boxers?"

"Yeah, of course," Steve says, touching Danny's cheek for a minute before he rolls over, scooting out of the bed and stretching as he stands. He wraps the used condom in a tissue and chucks it in the wastebasket, then pulls on a pair of boxers for himself, grabbing another pair and a shirt for Danny and tossing them his way.

Danny strips off the button-down and slides into Steve's shirt and the boxers, knotting them at the waist so they'll stay on, before burrowing under the covers, just waiting for Steve to come back and join him. "I think you have something of mine," Danny says, nodding to the ring on Steve's finger. "I'll take it back now."

"You mean I don't have to sneak it back on your finger when you fall asleep?" Steve asks, prying the ring loose from his own hand and sliding it onto Danny's again, pushing a kiss to the pad of his thumb.

"Not this time," Danny says fondly, pressing that hand to Steve's cheek while his other hand wraps around Steve's boxers to pull him closer. "Go open the door and let the dog in," he whispers, in a good enough mood to be okay with the puppy sharing bed space. "And then come to bed."

Steve smiles, walking over to the bedroom door and whistling softly as he opens it. The tiny tapping of nails against the floor announces the puppy coming up the stairs, and Zulu promptly whizzes by his feet before launching himself onto the bed and tackling Danny, headbutting him in the chest and then rolling over onto his back to expose his belly for rubs. "He's not a dummy when it comes to ways to get attention," Steve admits, getting under the covers again.

Danny just laughs when he gets divebombed by the dog, huddling him in close and tugging him right up against his body to run his hand over the dog's stomach, adjusting him to the outside of Steve to pull him in close and press a kiss to his lips. "Hey," Danny exhales. "Thank you for being the way you've been today. A guy couldn't ask for a better partner in anything."
