So here is the thing.

It has been six months of being a thing with Steve. Five months, near-death experiences on both of their parts, and moving in together without killing each other. So, you know, on a list of things that are pretty good, their relationship is up there. And you know, Danny doesn't mind things as they are, but there's been that niggling sense in the back of his head as he worries about hospital visits and the growing control freak in him is worried slightly that Steve is gonna do something stupid (likely), get himself in the hospital (very likely), and then Danny's not gonna have any rights to see him or get to make decisions for him.

Then there's the custody issue. The lawyers have implied that a stable home situation would improve things in the future if needed and it's one of those just in case things. It's not that Danny desperately wants to hitch up with Steve, but when he weighs out the pros and cons, it kind of nudges forward.

So being the brave guy that he is, he does what anyone not wanting a second wedding would do. He slides the paperwork into the middle of Steve's booking files, with little tabs telling Steve where to sign. He even puts post-it notes atop the heading. He just wants to file it and that's all.

Steve, meanwhile, is completely oblivious to any of Danny's potential worries. As far as he's concerned, Danny's content with things staying exactly the way they are. Or maybe that's closer to how Steve feels, comfortable with their situation falling into an easy rhythm, with sharing the bathroom mirror in the morning and one of them reaching out to steal a kiss from the other before they go to work, provided they haven't been fighting the night before. It's even got to the point where Chin and Kono have stopped giving each other knowing looks every time he and Danny disappear into his office for a 'brief word' that ends up taking fifteen minutes longer and ends in the two of them coming out looking significantly more mussed-up.

It's a slow day at headquarters, anyway, and Steve's up to his elbows in paperwork that needs to be filed, and by this point he's just gotten into a rhythm of scanning over the contents and quickly scribbling his signature at the bottom. He even runs out of ink halfway through the pile, switching pens right as he comes to a form with colorful tabs, the black fresh when he sets it aside and takes a break, leaning back to pinch the bridge of his nose.

Danny has just been out to pick up some lunch, bringing back a tuna ahi sandwich for Steve. He leans in and knocks lightly on his door, wandering in without being invited and setting it down on the desk, sitting down on the edge. "Hey Superman, you gotta eat, remember?" Danny coaxes gently, craning his neck back over his shoulder to see that Steve's signed the form. His smile gets a little wider and more private all at once.

Steve looks up from his hand, perking up with interest at the sandwich and sits up in his chair, reaching out to put it in front of him, and starts unwrapping the sandwich a corner at a time, taking a bite. "Mmm, you're right. I did kind of need this. Thank you." He looks up at Danny, who's wearing a different kind of smile than he anticipates. "What?"

Danny shakes his head, leaning over to take the form and turn it upside down, keeping it in his lap. "What? Nothing, just glad you got through some of your paperwork, I needed this one," he says with a tap to the page, leaning forward to press a slow kiss to Steve's lips.

"Oh, okay," Steve replies, not exactly sure why Danny's that grateful for one file but he's not going to start complaining if it somehow gets his partner to kiss him like that. "Still got a ton more to go, though. A lunch break makes it somewhat more bearable."

Danny shifts the file to just behind him, leaning in again to steal another of those kisses, getting up only so he can close the door and shut the blinds in the meantime. Chin and Kono are still out to lunch, but he doesn't want them interrupting when they get back. "I can't let you waste away, now can I?" he says, chest puffed up. "What kinda guy would I be then, huh?"

"Not a very good partner, for starters," Steve admits, one cheek stuffed with tuna sandwich as he talks out of the side of his mouth. He picks up another file and flips through it, oblivious to Danny's closing of the blinds while he chews slowly.

Danny turns and just watches Steve for a minute, claiming The File and tapping it against his thigh as he watches him, debating how far he's gonna go. "Hey, Steve. I was thinking you and I should take a weekend. Stay in the Hilton, swim with some dolphins, just have a couple days away from home. What do you think? This weekend?"

Steve looks up from a different kind of file entirely, stealing another bite of sandwich as he does, and then leans back in his desk chair, surveying Danny with a hint of amusement and a little skepticism. "You want to swim with dolphins?"

"Not so much," Danny is forced to admit as he regards Steve, dropping the file in the guest chair so he can use both hands to clasp Steve's face and lean in to kiss him again. "But the image of you, you swimming with dolphins. Now that, that I like. Plus, we'll get a big room, we'll get surf and turf, we'll get breakfast in bed. C'mon, babe."

Now Steve's really wondering what's gotten into Danny, but again, he's not reacting in protest when his partner kisses him again. He does pull back eventually, studying Danny intently. "You know I'm not against the idea, but what's the occasion? Is this some other anniversary I forgot about again?"

"No," Danny says softly, his tone practically flooded with warmth. Not yet is the unspoken part, but that involves telling Steve about the paperwork and he's not ready for that just yet. "No, it's just a weekend, Steve," Danny promises. "I'll call? I'll call and get a room and pack away an obscenely tight bathing suit that I'll wear exactly once?"

"Okay," Steve says, more out of relief that nothing's actually slipped his mind, but he nods after that as a follow-up in regards to Danny's suggestion. "Fine. As long as I can convince Chin and Kono to hold down the fort while we're gone. And I'm keeping my phone on in case there's a state of emergency that we're desperately needed for."

"Yes, dear," Danny shouts back and grabs his cell to head out to make the phone call. He stops in the middle and marches back to reclaim the forms from off the chair, flashing a nervous smile as he checks his watch and wonders if he can make it to city hall today.

Steve's finishing the last bite of his sandwich by the time Danny comes in, getting up from his desk to grab a soda from the mini-fridge and cracking it open. "You got somewhere to be?"

"Was thinking of running an errand," Danny admits, still grinning at Steve, but having finished up the reservation. "We check in Friday. Bring nothing. Nothing much. I intend to keep you naked for as long as possible." In the honeymoon suite that he just reserved. "You want anything from Liliha's? I'm gonna swing by there on the way back."

"Do you?" He took a seat on the front edge of his desk, propping one foot up on the guest chair, and sipped from the soda can. "Nah, I'll just have a little of whatever you bring back."

"Consider it done," Danny agrees, practically booking it out of there in the Camaro when he gets out the front door. He goes straight for city hall to file the forms with a lovely clerk who stamps it, sends it off to the judge, and Danny waits around for confirmation that it's done before he heads back, bakery goods in hand, and relief flooding him.

He just practically married himself to Steve.

And he feels...he feels good. He feels amazing. Though some of that might be the cocoa pastries. He parks and tucks the keys into the front pocket of his jeans as he heads back inside. "Hey!" he calls, the word heavy, like he's saying 'honey' instead. "Steve, so I'm thinking, maybe when we go to the dolphin place, we can pick up that stuffed animal Grace's been wanting."

Steve spends the next hour or so finishing up the rest of his paperwork, or rather forcing himself to finish the rest of it, knowing that by the time he does there will be pastries and Danny waiting, and he sets down the last file with a smirk of satisfaction, getting up from his chair to stretch and pace around the office a little bit, trying to cure the restlessness that crops up whenever he's been sitting for a long period of time.

He comes out into the hall as Danny shows up, pink bakery box in hand, and nods slowly. "Yeah, I don't see why not. We could probably pick her up a bunch of stuff from the gift shop."

Danny practically throws the box on the table and checks for Chin and Kono before walking Steve back until his ass hits the table, mauling him with a hungry kiss, desperate and with roaming hands as he bunches his fingers in the fabric of Steve's shirt.

Yeah, he wants to celebrate. Even if it's a technicality of paperwork.

"Whoa, whoa," Steve says, the words half-muffled between kisses, the desk even scraping back against the floor a little as he bumps into it harder than expected, and he braces a hand against the edge, the other resting on Danny's shoulder and nudging him back. "Where's the fire, Danny?"

"At this moment, in your pants," Danny says with a broad grin, leaning up to grab at Steve's shoulders and kiss him even harder. "C'mon, babe, it's a glorious day. The sun is bright, there's no killer tsunamis, you're gorgeous, and we're good. We are so good, you wouldn't believe."

"Danny," Steve tries, and then again, somewhere between the series of kisses that ensue, "Danny." And then, somewhere, his ass gets firmly planted on the desk and Danny gets pulled between his legs and his hands are threading up into Danny's hair from the back and when he says his partner's name again, it's in a breathless moan, "Danny."

"Yeah, that's more like it," Danny encourages, sliding his thumb into Steve's pants and nudging them loose so he can work a whole hand in there. "C'mon, baby, be loud," Danny encourages. "Just this once for me," he pleads as he gets a hand on Steve's dick and starts to stroke good and hard.

Both of Steve's hands go to the edges of the desk, gripping hard as he leans back, first looking down at Danny's hand working inside his pants and then at Danny himself, lips pink and slightly swollen from their kissing, and he hisses through gritted teeth before another moan breaks through as Danny strokes him up to a raging hard-on and he thrusts up into that grip. "God, baby, don't - don't stop," he pleads.
