[Homeplot - Kono]
Danny is not having the best fucking morning. First of all, his knee hurts. It hurts worse than it has hurt since the first minute of injury when he'd twisted it and the ACL just tore. Second of all, his back hurts. And it's no surprise given that he wakes up on his shitty pull-out bed.
Then he realizes: shitty pull-out bed and actually experiences a moment of sheer glee. He is home, he is back. And then he gets right back to being pissy because he just got happy about Hawaii.
He fumbles for his cell phone and habit tells him to call Steve.
He calls Kono instead, willing her to pick-up. "Hey," he greets, when she does. "I know it's crazy early, but you feel like shave-ice on the beach? And yes, it really is Danny. Danny Williams, I just, I could use a friendly face right now." Just to make sure he's not insane.

All of Five-O were friends, no doubt, and Kono had always made friends fast. Still, they tended to fall into natural lines: Kono and Chin Ho, Danny and Steve. It made sense, in a way, that they would parcel themselves out that way and it's a little bit of a jolt to have Danny calling her bright and early.
"Yeah, be there in ten. I was going to go out before coming in this morning anyway. See the surf report this morning?"

He fumbles for his cane and lets out a low chuckle at Kono's words. "Kono, my knee is...my knee is so fucked you wouldn't believe. There's no surfing going on for me, stop trying to make me kama'aina," he mutters, hobbling to his feet and limping along slowly.

She'd had her own trouble with knees, knew exactly how one little twist could snap an ACL and end a whole life. It was just a little thing, just a little bundle of tendons, but it had changed everything. Danny was a little less affected by his but she couldn't help but have a sympathy pain or two.
"We won't go on the sand," she decided. "It's hell on you when your knee's out. Stick to the boardwalks."

Kono waited near the shave ice place, warm breeze already rolling in off the ocean this early in the morning. Seeing Danny roll up she smiled, only for it to fall when she saw the limp.
"Did a number on it, huh?"

He's itching to find out what's been going on, though. "Hey, so, gimme the update. What's the freshest news?"

"Not too much. I was working on trying to track down where that extra ten million came from. Side project. Don't...don't tell Steve? Or Chin Ho? I don't think they'd want me sticking my nose in it."
Kono wrinkled her nose a little. "Just baby cuz, remember? I don't always get to play in the major leagues."

It would require Danny to wear a grass skirt, though, so Kono wasn't sure how well it would work.
"What about you? What's going on with Grace?"

Speechlessness on Danny isn't exactly how he lives, so for an awkward moment, he just looks like a fish out of water. "Me and...at Steve's place," he says, face getting a little heated as all the blood starts rushing in. "You uh, you sure? I mean, you don't have plans with what's-his-face, Ben? You don't need to," he gives a strangled laugh, "you know, sit around and watch Steve give me an aneurysm, but if, but if you're around, then you should drop by for dinner or something or hey, whatever Steve does."

Not that she wouldn't want to; Ben Bass had been the love of her life as a teenager but now, well. It was too complicated. Too many years between them and she had a good thing going with Five-0 that she didn't want to screw up.
"Sounds to me like you don't want me to come, though. Are you guys planning something and leaving the rookie out?"

He's said really one too many times, he thinks.

It wasn't like Kono to worry about something like that but with Danny acting so weird...

Which is the nicest way ever of saying 'I got kidnapped to another, crazier island'.

She clapped his shoulder lightly, friendly.
