Danny's starting to wonder if he'll have any hair left come the end of the month. The fourteenth of January is fast approaching and the snow's still around. Hell, he's starting to think it's never going away and at this rate, he's never going to be able to give Steve the goddamn beach wedding he wants. He's not lying, but he thinks that he might just call the whole thing off if he gets one more sign from a higher power that this isn't meant to be.

As it is, he's hanging around some of the market stalls to look for some fresh food to bring back and add to a healthy heaping of pancakes for Jack. If he's staying the night, Danny wants to have something ready for him in the morning.

"I said I wanted to marry him and that it was a secret and we aren't going to say anything!" she flails. "Okay? Because if you slip up and say something I will actually have to murder you."

"I'm not saying anything to anyone but you! That's still keeping it a secret unless you think the ghosts are gonna turn on you and start whispering to Raylan? And if you do think that, just don't tell me, okay? Please?" he pleads.

"No, not even me," she corrects. "Because it's not going to turn into a thing where you tease me and make comments and then I get sad."

"Why sad?" Danny asks, a flicker of confusion passing over his face. After all, he's not sure what's sad about wanting to get married. In fact, he'd think it's a pretty damn good thing.

"Because I want something I can't have," she huffs. "Raylan doesn't want to get married. He got married and it didn't go well and that's just the end of it. And I don't want him agreeing to it just to make me happy."

"And you don't know this," he counters, always argumentative when the situation calls for it. "Okay? It's like me and Steve all over again. You were the one blabbing on about how he wanted me and I should stop getting depressed. We talked it over and look at us. So talk it over."

"I'm pregnant with his baby," she mutters, fiddling with the tiny little cakes. "It's too much pressure. Anyway, whatever, what about you? Are we doing this wedding when things go back?"

"I don't know, I guess? I'm really not looking forward to having to reassemble every single plan we had to cancel from the last time," Danny admits, pinching his nose. "I guess the end of January? The snow's not letting up and we still need some time to plan."

"It'll be great," she says, squeezing his arm. "It'll be perfect and we'll all be happy for you. Trust me."

"Yeah, well, I don't want to rush it. Plus, Steve wants his barbeque and I want certain things, so it'll happen when it happens," he says with an offhand shrug, like it doesn't really matter. "I'd be okay with this going slow. He's the one trying to rush this forward at breakneck speed, remember?"

"Well get it together because someone's got to set a good example for this kid when he pops out," she says, poking a finger into his chest. "Need to have some nice, married people to guide his way."

"Nice married people, huh? You realize who I'm marrying, right?" Danny reminds her with a dubious look. "Steve and I definitely aren't going to be the nice married couple down the street who have baked cookies out. We're going to be that cop and the menace he lives with, the one who's too hot for his own good."

"Okay," she snorts. "First of all, I do not have many options here so it's gonna be you guys. Deal. Second, you bake cookies all the time, wifey."

"I bake cookies for the island bakery! It's a profession," he protests, wanting to air his complaint as loud as he can. "And you can have some if you ask nicely, but I thought your stomach didn't allow them or whatever. And you know I'll always be there for your kid. I'm just saying, please don't teach him to look to me and Steve as an example of normalcy."

"Okay, that's booze. I can have cookie if you don't rat me out to your fiancee," Rachel huffs. "Who else are we gonna use? Not me and Raylan. We're like, the owners. You're gonna train him."

"Hey, I'm not screwing up your extra-special diet-plan that he's got you on. I may be brave, but I'm so not that brave," he scoffs, shaking his head. "And fine, I'll teach him how to respect families, but you're responsible for guilt-glaring Steve."

"Yeah, the problem there is I usually think the shit Steve pulls is funny," she points out. "Also, our extra special diet plan is more to make sure I don't accidentally starve to death due to the fact that I'm like seventy percent man made. So, I can eat cookies, I've decided."

"Okay, then, you can drop by the bakery when my shifts are on," he says with a smirk, popping a blueberry against her lips. "And I'll bake you a custard-filled cake or some sugar cookies. Ma's recipe, I promise," he swears. "It'll be good for you and the baby."

She grins and nips at his fingers, glancing around as she imagines exactly what this looks like.

Thank God for understanding boyfriends.

"Better than a momma or a wife," she purrs, bopping his nose. "This baby's going to adore you. He's going to love his Uncle Danny."

"Yeah," Danny agrees, forcing a patient smile on his face because it's not what he wants. It's nowhere near what he wants, but he's not calling the shots on this. "He'd better considering how much time we're gonna be spending together."

"Like, lots of time," she insists. "Like, so much that you'll be getting sick of diapering my spawn. You're gonna be a huge part of this kid's life, Danny. We need you."

"I don't think I'm gonna protest that, not for a second," he insists. "I miss a kid. I miss my kid. I want a daughter or a son, I just..." He trails off. "No, this isn't my issue. This is about you and your Jess."

"Not everything has to be about me and my issues," she says. "I'm slowly learning that. It's okay if this baby makes you kind of sad. I'm not going to be insulted or whatever."

Danny keeps the serene look of calm on his face and yeah, it's torture. It's on par with him being back home and pretending to be okay about Rachel and Stanley, but he'll do it. "Come on, what are you talking about? I'm not sad."

Rachel's not sure if Danny thinks she actually doesn't know him that well, but she's willing to drop it. For now.

Neither one of them can let things go very well, but she'll try for him.

"Okay," she relents. "So if we get stuck here, you think it's safe to deliver a baby in this weird place? I don't think they've got like, epidurals."
